National Poetry Month Golden Shovel

I saw you And

Time stopped Everybody

Froze. Music began, birds tweeted, Never

Had anything magical happened to me, I Breathed

Out, not realizing I was holding my breath Quite

Taken aback by my urgency to know you So

Awkward and nervous, hoping I’d get a chance Many

Millions of poems and songs written about love at first sight, those Kinds

Of things don’t happen to me, Of

Course. I asked you out. 24 years later, you still say Yes.

-Nicole Smith, Momoetry

Golden Shovel suggested by Bridgette

The last word in each line creates a line from a famous poem. This is my favorite e.e. cummings poem: sweet spring is your time is my time is our time

The line:

and everybody never breathed

quite so many kinds of yes

Hi! I am in my 40s. I am a mother of 2, wife, and I work at a local family owned restaurant. I love reading and writing. I write poetry and blog to understand myself and the world around me better.
